Hot products The RUBITHERM® hot products (cushion, roll, belt, etc.) provide pleasant warmth over an extended period of time. "Charging" the products with heat is easy - only a few minutes in a microwave or convection/thermofan oven are required. The heat absorbed will then be released at a relatively constant temperature level over 1 to 2 hours - depending on the temperature of the environment. |

Latent heat storage powders The RUBITHERM® latent heat powders, are based on a bound PCM in extremely fine form. Finer than sand, the powder stays soft and free-flowing at any temperature, which allows the RUBITHERM products to always mould comfortably to fit the body contours. The components of the latent heat powders are non-toxic. These ecologically harmless materials have no adverse effects on plants, animals or micro-organisms. |

Passive transport systems
In May 2001, the German company, delta T Gesellschaft für Medizintechnik mbH, launched their innovative blood transport system "BLOOD IN MOTION". Especially during summer time, when stored blood levels run low, many hospitals require blood from remote blood banks to cover their demand. Until now, the transport of stored blood required very sophisticated and consequently, expensive systems in order to keep the blood within the prescribed temperature range. Whenever either freezing or warming up of the blood occurs, the blood has to be discarded. Following the launch of delta T's new product, many of these problems can now be avoided. An important element of the new blood transport system is the unique latent heat storage accumulator which incorporates a RUBITHERM PCM, specifically adjusted to this particular customer's needs. The cooling accumulators are shaped to form a sandwich container which can also be stacked. The bag containing the blood is placed in the middle of two pre-cooled accumulators which are then stacked in a special transport container. This ensures that the blood is kept at between 2 and 10 °C for a minimum of 12 hours - at an outside temperature of 35 °C. The temperature of each blood bag is recorded during transport by means of a data logger, which consequently guarantees complete documentation of the cooling and transport chain. This system provides the possibility to supply the bags of stored blood, each packed and cooled separately within the transport container, to the emergency room. This means that if the blood is not required it can be returned to the store room in its original state. Previously, even unused blood often had to be discarded due to uncontrolled warming up in the operating theatre. "BLOOD IN MOTION" can therefore effectively help to reduce the lack of blood stocks, a major concern in most hospitals. The delta T "BLOOD IN MOTION" system is another excellent example of the use of RUBITHERM's innovative PCM's and thermal technology.
